HOW TO SEE THE SEA…FROM YOUR LOCKDOWN LIVING ROOM!

How to see the sea… from your lockdown living room

For the last few weeks, Ben and I have been quietly working away at our Pureshore Jewellery ‘Remote HQ’, setting up our home offices with children in tow and contemplating where we take Pureshore Jewellery during this unprecedented journey. We are thinking hard about how we can continue to encourage people to shop small, something our independent business needs to survive, whilst also looking at how we as a company can support and acknowledge the UK’s amazing key workers during this time. Your thoughts on a postcard, or rather an email to hello@pureshorejewellery.com with suggestions would be gratefully received.

On a separate note, we’re certainly finding that it is much harder to bicker with your sibling when their office is located several miles from yours! In these last few weeks of semi-isolation (not withstanding spirited children, restless dog and disgruntled husband), I particularly have been thinking a lot about the seaside and how it would normally be my first point of escape when times get hard. There is something so relaxing and healing about being by the sea, the fresh air which promotes great sleep and the feeling of being part of something that is so much bigger than day to day headaches. Of course, at the moment, unless you are lucky enough to live on the coast and can take your permitted daily exercise there, there is no thought of heading to the beach at the moment.

I always thought that seeing pictures and videos of the sea were no substitute for actually being there but I’m discovering that I’m actually finding them rather soothing. I am really enjoying the ‘Tales from the Coast’ series with Robson Green. I’m also loving Coastmag’s weekly Coasthour tweets and the many inspiring coastal images posted on Instagram. In this spirit of celebrating the coast, we thought it would be a good idea to ask our Pureshore Jewellery Instagram followers to post a picture of their favourite coastal spot to evoke some happy memories and give us all something to aspire to in the coming months. We have had such a brilliant response and have started to post some of the beaches we have been sent to cheer us all up. We would love to keep on receiving more pictures while we are all in lockdown. Please email them and the location of the beach to hello@pureshorejewellery.com and we will feature them on our Instagram stories. Seeing all these wonderful places, has inspired us to base our remote office on a different beach every few days to hopefully lift our mood and yours and to keep the seashore front of mind whilst we’re all stuck indoors. We’re currently ‘working from home’ in Biarritz on the Cote Basque, taking the time to sit a while, watch the surfers and listen to the waves with the spring sunshine on our backs. We both have fond childhood memories of playing on the beach there, the promise of a delicious crepe with mouth-watering choice of fillings and awaiting our turn on the carousel.

Soon it will be time to move our virtual office to another coastal location. Where to next…?
